They say love and hate are the same feelings experienced under different circumstances, and it’s true.
The man who comes to me in my dreams also haunts me in my nightmares.
He is a brilliant lawyer.
A skilled criminal.
A beautiful liar.
A bully and a savior, a monster and a lover.
Ten years ago, he made me run away from the small town where we lived. Now, he came for me in New York, and he isn’t leaving until he takes me with him.

She is a starving artist.
Pretty and evasive like cherry blossom.
Ten years ago, she barged into my life unannounced and turned everything upside down.
She paid the price.
Emilia LeBlanc is completely off-limits, my best friend’s ex-girlfriend. The woman who knows my darkest secret, and the daughter of the cheap Help we hired to take care of our estate.
That should deter me from chasing her, but it doesn’t.
So she hates me. Big fucking deal.
She better get used to me

“We’ve waited a long time for this. I want the real thing. Not the watered-down version. And the real thing is not only beautiful. It is also ugly. I want your truth.”

I hate him. There is a level of hatred I have for this man, and somehow I fell head-over-heels for this jerk. Damn it! With a name like Vicious, he wasn’t going to be some Mr. Darcy and ride up on a horse to save your butt. No. More like he was hung like a horse (hehehe!). I kid you not— majority of the book, I was cursing and tell him to go you know where; nevertheless, there was pivotal moment in the plot where J.L. Shen grabbed your heart and twisted it uncontrollably that you sank into Vicious’ hands. Voilà—you are now sucked up into the drama! Be prepared to be in shambles, because Vicious by L. J. Shen will leave you high and dry… or moist?

When we think of a bad boy, we consider he likes to live on the edge. The wildfire. Throw caution to the wind. With Vicious, he was more in the lines of free-falling without a parachute. Terrifying with a pinch of anxiety and praying for something to catch you; however, the man was exotic and desirable. As much as he was a ruthless son of a businessman, you caved for this guy. That was the issue for Emilia. Her family worked for Vicious’ family, as well, they had lived  under the same roof. Now, before we start this review, you have to understand that this was not a cookie cutter Cinderella love story. Don’t expect him falling in love with his maid and they run off in the sunset. No. He pretty much destroyed her. Remember, I hated him for most of this story.

‘The Four HotHoles’ they called themselves. In high school, Vicious and his band of hot pieces of work were known to be the temptation for the girls. The ring leader, aka—Vicious (ps. That isn’t his real name but everyone called him that) made sure that Emilia would suffer under his control. He had it out for her, because she was a good person; on the other hand, she screwed him over. She ended up dating Dean, one of his best friends. Oh he was so delicious. I fell for Dean. Under his tough exterior, he was sweet but they didn’t really seem “right” for each other. So, Vicious made it his thing to personally destroy her happiness.

Did he?

“I used to think of you as a villain, but you’re not my villain. You’re your own villain.”

Ten years later—Emilia was working two jobs to take care of her sick sister and trying to attempt to get into the art industry, when guess who decided to walk right back into her life….again. Vicious. This time she grew stronger to handle his destructiveness. Vicious asks her to take down his family in trade for money. Keep in mind, he was still a nasty jerk, but he put her in a position that was hard to say no. This led both of them down the path of pulling off the band-aid on the old wounds and letting that nasty love they had for each other to start all over again. Was it bad? Was is nasty? Was it intoxicated? Oh hell yes!

The relationship between the two, as much as there was so much drama, they fit perfect. They understood each other even if they fought one another. Shen created a man who was completely the anti-hero of bad boys. He was at one point the devil himself because of how psychotic he could be. Keep in mind, there was a reason for all of this and you sort of felt bad for him. Yet the chills I got when he spoke or when he did something only made me feel like I was a bad person for lusting over him. The flow of the writing was perfect, as well as the character building. Shen gave us the true feelings of how bad this man could be. Wow.

So, are you looking for not so peachy relationship? You looking for a fire that will spark in your heart lusting over a bad boy? Read this because you’ll be completely satisfied or probably broken in every part of your body.
