GENRES: Romance, New Adult,
Travis King is the worst kind of asshole.
He taunts me for being a good girl and mocks my high standards.
He’s cruel, crass, and has enough confidence to last two lifetimes.
And I hate him.
It wouldn’t matter so much if he were avoidable.
But considering he’s my older brother’s best friend and roommate, I see him more than I’d ever want to.
His sculpted abs and gorgeous eyes are a waste on such an egotistical man, which makes me hate him even more.
Even though I’ve had a crush on him since I was ten, the feelings weren’t mutual and he’s always made that very clear.
He’s always loved getting under my skin and one night against my better judgment, I let him in my bed.
I’ve succumbed to his man-whore ways, but that doesn’t change a thing. Because the King is about to get played at his own game—and lose.
This is Reckless (The Checkmate Duet #3)
WRITTEN BY: KENNEDY FOX
SEQUEL: This is Effortless (The Checkmate Duet #4)
GENRES: Romance, New Adult,
Drew Fisher is the type of guy every girl wants. Noble police officer by day, charming prince by night. He has no idea the effect he has on women, especially me—his little sister’s best friend. I’m the blonde Southern belle who lives up to the cliché, except I have my own quirks. I’m smart as a whip, can change my own oil, and recite The Pledge of Allegiance backward, but he doesn’t see that girl. It’d be easier to forget him if he wasn’t my roommate and if the first thing I saw in the morning wasn’t his shirtless body covered in tattoos. I’ve crushed on him since the day we met, but he’s made it perfectly clear where we stand. Just friends.
I know I need to move on and accept that his feelings will never be mutual, but every day he smiles at me, I’m left dreaming of what if.
He has girl issues, and I’ve got a crush I can’t deny.
We’re friends, but I want more.
One drunken hookup leaves us with much more than a platonic friendship. Pretending it never happened proves to be more difficult than anticipated.
A crazy ex-girlfriend, a dangerous war of stolen glances, and passionate kisses leads to the most reckless battle yet. I won’t be a pawn in his game, but I’ll play by his rules if it will show him I’m the one worth breaking them for.
Checkmate, Prince Charming.
THE MINI REVIEW OF THE SERIES
*I received an ARC in return for an honest review.
Pull out your baking tools, because you’ll need some cheering up from this series! Blueberry muffins, anyone? Whether you like bad-boys or boys with a golden soul, Kennedy Fox does a toll on your heart that will keep you desiring for more. My lovely friends have been telling me about this series for a while. So, I moved this book up the line on my TBR and I dropped everything to fall in love with Travis. I was literally gushing (gushing was understatement—more like searching Pinterest for the perfect man that fits Travis but everything came down to my obsession with Henry Cavill). After I was done with the first two books, I told myself no other book boy could replace my heart for Travis, in-walks-in Drew. His yummy exterior, his blinded love—oh how I was drawn to him from the start. I felt like I was cheating on Travis for him (forgive me?). In fact, I picture myself on the last episode of The Bachelorette trying to figure out which one I’d choose to give the rose too (would it matter if both still looked like Henry Cavill?).
This Is War
Travis was the edgy badass character that will put you against that wall. Damn right he would. He has been in love with Violet, Drew’s sister, for such a long time. Yet, he knew in his heart he couldn’t be with her. When his roommate and best friend—Drew takes off with his crazy (insert every possible bad word here) girlfriend Mia (she’s important—unfortunately) during the time of Spring Break, Violet stays over causing a challenging situation for Travis. Violet and Travis’ dynamics is a rush to the brain. They’re always at each other’s throats, but the attraction for one another is as clear as day. The whole book, you’re wanting nothing more for these two to just stop with their stubbornness and come together, but the obstacles they face pushes them off a cliff freefalling into a pit of destruction.
The ending of the book, even though you thought you’d be seeing some sunshines and happy endings, hell no—Kennedy Fox takes your happiness and shoves it down a bender, ripping all your hopes and dreams. I felt like a child finding out Santa wasn’t real. Prepare for the second book, it’s even more intense.
This Is Reckless
Oh, Drew—he’s the knight and shiny armor in his cop outfit. He’s the boy who you love so dearly but he doesn’t see you that way. Violet’s best friend Courtney, is so in love with him yet he is too entranced by his girlfriend—Mia (Remember how I said she’s important?). This is a story that hits home for a lot of people. Heck, Taylor Swift written a song about it (I totally have listen to that song repeatedly thinking about a boy that didn’t want me). I think a lot of people love this story because as much as he’s a pretty boy, he can be frustrating. Courtney and Drew have this connection that as much as you’re so frustrated about them pushing it off, they can’t even deny it. They’d be lying to themselves. Now, I don’t want to go full in depth with this story, because you must read the first two to understand This is Reckless. Nevertheless, I loved it. I was so broken because I’ve been in a position falling in love with a friend, but sometimes you wonder if it’s worth it?
